Kevin Kovach, Dr.P.H., M.Sc., Senior Analyst & Portfolio Strategist, leads planning and activities for KHI’s public health services and systems portfolio. In his current role, Kevin leads the Transforming Public Health for the 21st Century blog, co-directs the Region 7 Public Health Innovation Hub, and leads research and programing for public health services and systems and other population health issues.
Kevin is a seasoned public health leader with over two decades of experience in public health services and systems at the local, state and national levels. Prior to joining KHI, he was the Senior Manager for Population and Community Health at the American Academy of Family Physicians, where he led public health policy development, programs and research to integrate primary care and public health and led the development of the Center for Diversity and Health Equity. Before this, Kevin worked in a variety of roles in state and local health departments, including emergency preparedness, health education and epidemiology.
Kevin also has a strong record of academic achievement in public health. He has a doctorate in public health leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a master’s in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a graduate certificate in qualitative research from Kansas State University. He has a strong record of publications and thought leadership with leading public health journals. This includes serving as a contributor to JPHMP Direct. Kevin also is an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Master of Public Health program at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Kevin has a broad range of interests including strategy development, change management, health equity and addressing other public health challenges.
