The Kansas Health Institute and National Public Health Week are both celebrating  30 years of advancing health. KHI is proud to participate in this year’s National Public Health Week, taking place April 7–13, which highlights the theme “It Starts Here.”

Monday, April 7, 2025: 30th Anniversary

Kari Bruffett, president and CEO of the Kansas Health Institute, kicks off National Public Health Week 2025 by celebrating a shared milestone — the 30th anniversary of both KHI and the national observance.

Tuesday, April 8, 2025: Storytelling in Public Health

Kevin Kovach, KHI senior analyst and portfolio strategist, discusses storytelling as an effective tool in public health, helping professionals communicate the impact of their work beyond data.

Wednesday, April 9, 2025: Innovation in Public Health 

Tatiana Lin, director of business strategy and innovation at KHI, highlights the importance of innovation in public health and how KHI weaves it into every aspect of our work—including exploring the potential of artificial intelligence to advance public health.

Thursday, April 10: Hunger in Kansas 

Samiyah Para-Cremer Moore, senior analyst and portfolio strategist at the Kansas Health Institute, highlights KHI’s efforts to address hunger across Kansas through strategic partnerships and community-focused technical assistance. 

Friday, April 11, 2025:  Rural Health 

Wyatt Beckman, senior analyst at the Kansas Health Institute, discusses KHI projects that bring attention to the unique health needs of rural Kansas. 

Saturday, April 12: Maternal Health and Equity 

Ithar Hassaballa, strategy team leader at the Kansas Health Institute, highlights KHI’s focus on maternal health and equity. Learn about our community-focused research and partnerships that strive to improve public health for mothers and their babies. 

Sunday, April 13: Policy 

Sheena Schmidt, strategy team leader at the Kansas Health Institute, discusses KHI’s focus on understanding how policy impacts public health. KHI is tracking potential policy changes at the federal level and providing up-to-date analysis on how these changes to programs like Medicaid might impact Kansans.
